             黃衍是位成就卓著的國畫家,尤其擅長畫貓。貓一旦到了他的筆下就活了。   “貓可愛、機靈、乖巧,討人喜歡。在我眼里,貓象征和平、溫馨、安詳。描繪它的神韻,也就是贊美生活、贊美改革開放帶來的和平昌盛的社會環(huán)境,沒有改革開放,就不會有人民的富足安康。這就是我畫貓的主要原因!闭f起畫貓,黃衍有說不完的話。為了畫好貓、畫活貓,他靜化心意、寄情于斯,每每整日在斗室中與所養(yǎng)群貓嬉戲或靜觀其生態(tài)習性,常常物我兩忘,如醉如癡。20年來,他一直堅持把貓的許多極具豐采的瞬間神韻速寫下來,并積累了千余張貓的速寫,F(xiàn)在黃衍只用寥寥幾筆,就能把貓從一個動態(tài)過渡到另一個動態(tài)的瞬間,準確、生動地表現(xiàn)出來。
          黃衍畫貓很注重作品的形式美,其精巧的構(gòu)思、嚴謹?shù)牟季、考究的造型、富于變化的筆墨和色彩,使得畫面靈秀恬靜、雅致大方。然而,黃衍深知畫家必須是創(chuàng)造者,必須在美的形式中刻意追求美的創(chuàng)造。他畫貓不是為貓寫照,而是借貓寫意、借貓抒情。站在黃衍的畫前,那動中有靜、靜中求動的畫面和充滿東方神韻的別致意境,總是能夠讓人目在畫中,而心馳畫外,去聯(lián)想那些他不曾畫出、也無法畫出的天趣神理。畫中那呼之欲出的神形所能引起人們共鳴和遐思的,難道不正是黃衍透過畫筆寄寓于畫面中的、對人生和社會的真誠探求,以及對人世間喜怒哀樂的種種尋味嗎?
          “生活是美好多彩的,人要投入生活,讓生活有意義。生活是藝術(shù)的源泉,藝術(shù)是生活的靈魂,生活不能缺少藝術(shù),藝術(shù)不能離開生活!边@就是黃衍對生活的感悟。
          同黃衍接觸,最大的感覺是他對藝術(shù)的真誠追求。
          “作畫使人感到充實,使人心情開朗、純凈,把人變得有深度!秉S衍如是說。中國文化是以水墨記載的。中國的藝術(shù),是以水墨繪出。中國畫的藝術(shù),是世界文化之林中取之不盡的寶藏。她的獨立性,她的特殊,不是哪一種文化或繪畫形式可以同化得了的。外來文化只能作為她的滋養(yǎng)成分,而不能喧賓奪主地蓋過其風華。其實黃衍是從畫西畫開始的,并且經(jīng)過數(shù)載西方繪畫的嚴格訓練,打下了他堅實的現(xiàn)代寫實基礎(chǔ)和現(xiàn)代色彩技巧。但中國畫卻以“形神兼?zhèn),以形寫神”而見長,而這也正是黃衍自己的特長,為什么不把中國的優(yōu)秀傳統(tǒng)繼承與發(fā)揚呢?經(jīng)過一段時間的抉擇,黃衍明確了自己的方向:繼承傳統(tǒng),并有所創(chuàng)新。
          在對中國畫求新、求變、求個性化的過程中,黃衍自有體會:現(xiàn)代中國畫的創(chuàng)新,正是百家爭鳴,百花齊放,各有各說,有的全然丟棄了傳統(tǒng)章法格調(diào),標新立異,一時間走在潮峰浪尖的人,也聲名鵲起于一時。然而,中國畫之立于世界畫林,不就是因為這研之不盡的傳統(tǒng)嗎?我們?nèi)羧珨?shù)棄了這優(yōu)良傳統(tǒng),迎合了外國人的一個“明白”,那可貴之處,那價值又何在呢?全世界的畫家都在研究中國畫的傳統(tǒng),我們的畫家,是不是也應(yīng)該是在精于傳統(tǒng)精神的基礎(chǔ)上求變化呢?
          這種發(fā)人深省的認識,是他對藝術(shù)不懈追求的結(jié)果。黃衍說:“許多人都擅長畫馬,但是徐悲鴻的馬堪稱一絕;許多人會畫蝦,尤以齊白石老人的蝦才蓋世無雙。我畫貓也追求綜觀古今,師法自然,以破為貴!边@也許正是他畫貓取勝的法寶吧。
          在決定走中國畫這條藝術(shù)道路之后,黃衍就以貓為題材,且一畫就是20多年。畫得最多的是寫意貓,其筆法酣暢淋漓、內(nèi)涵豐富。特別是在貓眼的處理上,確有其獨到之處。他認為,眼睛是傳神達意的窗戶,畫好眼睛,畫出眼神,就是成功了一半。他以其扎實、深厚的藝術(shù)功底把自己對人生的感悟、對自然的感受、對藝術(shù)的理解都傾注在貓的眼神之中。所以黃衍筆下的貓總是潤澤靈動、嫵媚可愛、呼之欲出, 并頗具大家風度。在黃衍的書屋里,珍藏著一幅《四季百貓圖》,在這幅長卷上有白貓、黑貓、花貓、黃貓百余只。貓逗蟋蟀、貓戲蝴蝶、貓和貓的嬉戲玩逗,一貓一神、一貓一態(tài)……這些形態(tài)各異的貓,均是栩栩如生,多姿多彩。畫中配以牡丹、玉蘭、菊花、草石,既豐富了畫面的內(nèi)涵,又增加了藝術(shù)情趣。書畫界專家、名流對他的畫大多贊許不已,給予了高度評價:悟性的變化達于極致,靈氣的吸收趨于老練。
          墨色天成,留白隨情,黃衍以其骨清韻秀、意態(tài)閑雅的筆墨在中國畫壇獨樹一幟。對此,黃衍坦言:自己雖有近70的年齡,但卻擁有年輕人的心態(tài),還可以做很多的事。近年黃衍不僅在國內(nèi)舉辦了多次大型個人書畫藝術(shù)展,而且還應(yīng)邀赴美國、法國、德國、荷蘭、比利時、日本、韓國等國家進行訪問和藝術(shù)交流。黃衍的貓畫以其深厚的思想內(nèi)涵火爆了中外畫壇。
          
          Huang Yan is a traditional Chinese painter with remarkable achievements. He is especially good at painting cats, which seem to come alive with the touch of his brush.
          When painting cats, Huang Yan attaches great importance to structure and colors. However, he attaches more attention to creating an overall “aesthetic sense” in his paintings. He thinks that a painter should be a creator of beauty. Therefore, when painting cats, he does not merely concentrate on creating a portrait of some particular feline; but rather, by painting a vivid cat, he wishes to express a special kind of emotion that oriental people have; and he regards the ability to accomplish this as the quintessence of traditional Chinese painting.
          Ever since he decided to engage in the traditional Chinese style of painting, Huang Yan has been devoted to his primary subject matter - painting cats - and many regard his best ones as the freehand or “Xi Yi” style, which are especially unique in the painting of cat eyes. Huang Yan thinks that eyes, like the windows of an apartment, can express the inner emotions of a person or a cat; so the successful painting of eyes is half the success of a painting.
          In his studio, he displays a long, horizontal scroll painting, entitled Cats in Four Seasons, in which there are nearly 100 cats in white, black, yellow, and many other charming and typical cat colors. In this painting, no matter what the cats are doing - catching crickets, playing with butterflies, or playing with each other - all are all depicted vivid, realistic hues and poses, truly seeming to “come to life.” Many other famous painters have given high praise to this very special painting.
          For this, Huang Yan, at the age of nearly 70, though very famous now, frankly speaking that though he is old, his emotion is very young, so he can still do a lot of things more in the field of painting. In recent years, has held many painting exhibitions at home and abroad, such as in the USA, France, Germany, the Holland, Belgium, Japan, and South, as well as his frequent visits to these countries, fully verifying his words and his power in the field of painting.
